Cutting curly hair

Cutting curly hair should be done by a stylist who has experience with curls. Because of the “shrink factor”, if a stylist doesn’t have experience cutting curly hair, or have curly hair themselves, they would never know that the “half-inch trim” could easily turn into a 5-inch hack cut. If you are searching for a new stylist, do your research and make sure that they have cut curly hair before.

Some stylists, depending on the type of curly hair, like to cut it dry. Others, will cut very little off and ask you to come back if you find you need more off later.  Many professional stylists believe that curly hair should not be layered as it will make the hair “stick out”.  They prefer to keep the layers long in order to weigh down the curls and prevent frizz. Regardless of whether your curls are long or short, the right products for your hair type will make all the difference. Realself works shampoo, conditioner and leave-in will help you to free your curls!
